I’m sure you’ve heard of this before – people making money by blogging.
But does it really work in Malaysia? I have some straight answers and
tips for you.
Before you spend time reading through this article please keep in
mind that there’s no short cut to success. If you intend to make money
online by blogging but want quick results, I must say that this is not
for you. However, if you believe in working hard, working smart,
persistent, consistent able to persevere and won’t give up easily then
you’re a step closer in making money online.
So how do people make money online in Malaysia by blogging? One
common thing you will notice with successful blog sites is that they are
popular. Why are they popular? It’s because they have a lot of traffic,
in other words a lot of “visitors” to the websites. Observe how many
LIKES they have on their Facebook page because that’s usually a simple
indicator to gauge how successful the blog is.
Now imagine that your blog is like a shop on the street or inside a
mall, the more customers you have entering your shop, the higher the
chances that customers would purchase something from your store. If you
don’t have anyone entering your store, that means you won’t be able to
sell anything at all! The same concept applies to your blog.
So how do people in Malaysia make money online by blogging? Let me summarise it in “5 simple steps”.
Step 1: Start a Blog or Website
First of all, you will need to build your blog or a website. While
there are many free ready-made blogs out there such as blogspot.com, I
still prefer to start my own blog or website from scratch. If you know
how to use productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, then you should be
able to build a blog using WordPress or Drupal by following simple
instructions. I won’t talk about the technical stuff for now since I
don’t wish to move away from the original topic.
Step 2: Pick a Niche or Topic
Everyone must be good at something, and that includes you. Perhaps
you’re an accountant who knows a lot of tips and tricks on accounting,
or you like to experiment with cooking and create unique dishes. These
are just some examples which you can write about and share to the world.
There are endless possibilities of niche or topic you can choose from.
However, in order to increase your chances of being successful, try to
choose a niche or topic that’s still unique out there, or at least with
the least competition.
Step 3: Add Posts or Contents
Assuming that your blog is ready, you need to start adding contents
to your blog. If you’re new to blogging, writing the first post can be a
challenge but for some people who are passionate about writing, they
can do it without any problem. The secret to have a successful blog is
to be consistent and continuously adding fresh and unique contents.
Please avoid copying other people’s articles or blog posts as this will
cause problems in the future. Always write your own post.
Step 4: Build Traffic by Fine Tuning your Blog and Doing SEO
How do you search for information online? Yes, you Google. So how can
you let people find your blog? You make your blog “visible” to Google
by fine tuning your blog and doing some SEO (search engine
optimization). There are many free tips out there but in the near future
I will blog about what methods work for me which you can use to
implement on your blog as well.
Step 5: Turn Traffic into Money (Monetization)
Once you have a steady flow of traffic to your blog, you can “monetize” the traffic by serving online ads on your blog via Google’s Adsense program.
This is probably one of the most reliable ways to earn money online
because each time a visitor clicks on an ad on your blog, you will get a
commission. I know what you’re thinking – “what if I click all the ads
on my blog myself?” Well, Google is smart enough to know if you’re
making false clicks on your blog. Don’t ever attempt to do this because
Google will ban you for life and you can never join the program ever. No
kidding. You can also monetize your blog traffic by joining affiliate
marketing, sell products or services which are related to your blog. I
will spend time writing on this in my future posts.
On a final note, do remember that we now live in a “borderless”
world. As long as your blog is accessible by anyone from anywhere on
this planet, your blog has the potential to allow you to make money
online not just in Malaysia but from any country around the world.
So, ‘yes’ is the answer to the question “Can People Really Make Money Online by Blogging in Malaysia?”
